Tools of the Mind

The other night I went to a school nite meeting at Vins preschool. The point was to expose us to the Tools of the Mind cirriculum they use. Being a teacher (of dance, true, but still) I know that creating a method of teaching so that you get in all the skills is daunting but this was really complex. They actually have a staff person whose entire job it is to consult and teach the cirriculum to the teachers.

I never thought about it before but these teachers are responsible for the entire basis of these kids education. They practically need to know algebra to be in Kindergarten any more (I kid) and there to so much to teach them and prepare them for.

They teach them letters and numbers. Not just to recgonize them but what they 'mean'. They teach them abstract concepts that will some day lead to reading and writing and math and science. They teach them in so many different ways its mind boggling, really. I am ever more glad now that we decided to put Vin in school this year and that we chose this school. For the price especially it is a GREAT deal and he is getting a really good base for his education.
